Veterans Day Tribute Occurs in Sea of Flags
A sea of red, white and blue provided the backdrop for Veterans Day ceremonies in Utica, where American Legion-led tributes and wreath-laying took place at six monuments around the city – including in the middle of 1,000 tall American flags set up in neat rows along the Memorial Parkway to honor veterans.
In fact, the American Legion Family was out in force across the state Wednesday honoring veterans by participating in parades, wreath-laying ceremonies, and dedication of roads and walkways to veterans.

WW II Vet’s Stolen Medals Replaced
Lt. Andrew Doyle disappeared over the Pacific in 1944;
2 Purple Hearts stolen from only surviving sibling in a burglaryBROOKLYN — Congressman Dan Donovan (NY-11) joined Brig. Gen. William H. Graham at Fort Hamilton on Nov. 8 to present service medals to Ann Byrne — the only surviving sibling of Lieutenant Andrew Doyle, who disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while flying a combat mission in 1944. After remaining in Ms. Byrne’s possession for decades, Lt. Doyle’s medals, including two Purple Hearts, were stolen in a random burglary several years ago.

The debt America and Americans owe to veterans cannot be satisfied by an annual expression of gratitude and remembrance.

National Commander Visits Western New York
American Legion National Commander Dale Barnett visited western New York Oct. 16-18 (swinging through the 8th, 7th and 6th Districts) . One of his first stops was in Batavia Friday, where he spoke with veterans at the VA Center.
