Bowling Tourney Attracts 61 Teams
The 65th Annual Department Bowling Tournament took place on weekends from April 12 to May 18 in Malone, hosted by Malone Post 219.
“There were 61 teams, 150 doubles, 300 singles and 292 six-game combos that bowled in this year’s tournament,” Bowling Chair Richard Milton reported at the convention. “Total prize money paid out, excluding trophies, was $4,882.”

$365,167 in Scholarships
Education and Scholarship Chair John Murphy reported that information gleaned from the Consolidated Post Reports revealed that 131 posts awarded 2,112 scholarships worth $365,167 this past year, with 8,668 hours of volunteer service rendered.

Be Pround of Your Department
Outgoing Department Commander Ken Governor, on several occasions during the convention, made a point of letting over 650 attendees know that “we value your work, we value your service, we value your opinions” as well as “your strong support.”
He went on to declare, “be proud of your Department of New York,” especially as it takes steps to be more communicative and more proactive.
He cited a few examples.

Children and Youth Awards
Legion Posts around the state devoted 57,111 volunteer hours to children and youth program, Children and Youth Chair John Konkol reported — and that was with only about 63 percent of posts reporting their activities through the Consolidated Post Report.
