    Children and Youth Awards

    Legion Posts around the state devoted 57,111 volunteer hours to children and youth program, Children and Youth Chair John Konkol reported — and that was with only about 63 percent of posts reporting their activities through the Consolidated Post Report.

     Some 30 counties had 100 percent reporting, with the 5th District being the only district to attain 100 percent reporting. In recognition of that, Konkol presented a National Meritorious Service Citation to 5th District Commander James Ellis.

     Konkol also presented Oustanding Children and Youth Program Awards to some posts in each district.

    1st District: Silver Beach Post 1371 in the Bronx and Lt. B.R. Kimlau Chinese Memorial Post 1291 in New York.

    2nd District: Fredrick Staats Post 517 in Old Bridge and Joseph F. Merrill Jr. Post 1368, Staten Island.

    3rd District: Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327 in Prattsville, Bunt-Brewer Post 165 in Tannersville, and Lamouree-Hackett Post 72 in Saugerties.

    4th Disttict: Russell B. Childs Post769 in Chazy, Clark-Robinson Post 68 in Norwood, John Wyszomirski Post 701 in Amsterdam, and Plattsburgh Post 20, Plattsburgh.
