4 Back-to-Back Games in Opening Round
UTICA — The opening day of the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships featured four back-to-back games at Murname Field’s Donovan Stadium in Utica. The opening round went into the evening, with a hot sun beating down on most of the day’s play.
West Seneca Post, Maine-Endwell Post, Brooks Shepard Post and Rockland OTB Pirates were the victors.

Tournament Players Get Autographs from Nursing Home Vets
UTICA — A group of American Legion baseball players brought baseballs to St. Luke’s Nursing Home July 27 and asked military veterans for their autographs.

Commander, Former Yankee to Help Kick Off Tournament
UTICA — The New York State American Legion Baseball Championship Tournament gets underway Tuesday, July 28, with state Commander James Yermas throwing out the first pitch.
Tournament Director Mike Macchione says a special guest is catching that pitch – former New York Yankee World Series MVP Russell Earl “Bucky” Dent.

John Aiello of Northport and Jared DiNicolantonio of Lockport spent the past week (July 17-24) in Washington, D.C., representing New York at the American Legion Boys Nation – one of the Legion’s premier youth programs.
