Legion Riders to Visit Veterans at Vets Home in Batavia

The Legion Riders of American Legion Post 567 in Orchard Park are planning an annual visit to the New York State Veterans’ Home at Batavia on Aug. 8 – and invite others to join the ride, whether on motorcycle or by car.

“Every year the residents eagerly await our visit,” notes Chapter President Robert Youngs. “We escort them out to the parking for a guided tour of the bikes. A lot of them rode in their youth and have some great stories. After returning to the facility, we join them in a soda and snack social, and enjoy the great conversations and stories shared by all.”

He adds: “You don’t have to be a Veteran to join us. Just share our respect of the men and women who served this great country and secured our freedoms. We ask a $10.00 donation from all who participate, with 100% of that donation going directly to the New York State Veterans’ Home at Batavia, for the benefit of the Vets residing there.”

Registration begins at 10:45 Saturday, Aug. 8, at Orchard Park American Legion Post 567, 3740 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park. The ride starts at noon.

Said Youngs: “Join us for a scenic ride through the country side! Or if you prefer you can meet us at 1 p.m. at the New York State Veterans’ Home,” located at 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia 14020.
