Yorktown Post Unveils Honor-Flag Program
YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown American Legion Post 1009 in Yorktown Heights held an unveiling ceremony Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Gazebo of the Jack Devito Veterans Memorial Field for its new honor-flag program to honor deceased veterans, the Yorktown Daily Voice reported.

Legion Riders Escort Bicyclists to Avon, Present $1,500
The American Legion Riders from Lima Post 282 greeted and escorted the cross-country bicyclists (three Boy Scouts and a Vietnam vet) to Legion Post 294 in Avon Sunday, reports Jerry Ketchum, vice director of New York State American Legion Riders. “it was the first time they were escorted by a Legion Riders Chapter.”

NY Champs Eliminated from Regionals
New York American Legion Baseball Champions West Seneca Post 735 was eliminated from the American Legion Regional Championships Friday in Leesburg, VA after losing to Albemarle of Virginia, 7-3, in the third round of the regionals.

West Seneca Loses Game in 2nd Round of Regional Championships
New York’s West Seneca Post 735 lost to Red Land Post 974 of Pennsylvania, 6-3, in the second day of the American Legion Regional Baseball Championships in Leesburg, VA.

Scouts, Viet Vet Bike Across NY for Wounded Vets
Three Boy Scouts and a Vietnam War veteran will bicycle through Upstate New York starting Aug. 7 and conclude a 59-day, 3,600-mile cross-country bike ride in New York City on Saturday, Aug. 15. Along the way, the Bike Trip America group (Boy Scouts Venturing Crew 225 of Astoria, Oregon) is raising funds for The American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program that provides assistance and comfort items to wounded, ill and homeless veterans and military personnel.

West Seneca Wins Opener in Regionals
West Seneca Post, the American Legion’s New York State Baseball Champs, went 12 innings Wednesday to defeat Stahl Post of Delaware, 3-2, on the opening day of the Regional Championships in Leesburg, Virginia.
West Seneca plays Red Land of Pennsylvania Thursday.
