Department Convention Limited to 100 with Altered Voting Procedures
Department Adjutant James Casey today announced updated plans for the 103rd Department Convention, to be held July 23 – 31, 2021 at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany.
The COVID-restricted convention will be limited to 100 Legionnaires in attendance, with amended voting procedures for election of the 2021-2022 Department Commander.

New Junior Shooting Chairman’s Guide Available
The Junior Shooting Sports Program (JSSP) now has a new Chairman’s Guide available in the “Downloads” section of the JSSP Resource page located at https://www.legion.org/shooting/resources.This guide has been developed to assist junior shooting sports chairmen at all levels in organizing and understanding responsibilities for the Junior Shooting Sports Program, administered at either the post or department level, as well as outside entities that may wish to participate in The American Legion’s National Tournament.
This guide replaces the previous JSSP admin manual.

Ian Chung Is 2021 State Oratorical Champ

ALBANY — Ian Chung, a freshman at Vestal Senior High School in Vestal, is The American Legion New York State Oratorical Champion for 2021, Oratorical Chairman Anthony Paternostro announced.
This year’s contest was conducted on March 6 at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center, Albany.

WNY Heroes Snow Sculpture in Arcade, NY
A ten-foot snow sculpture featuring three soldiers and an American flag attracted the attention of American Legion and VFW members on Sunday, Feb. 14.As Lite 98.7 Radio put it: “Eric Jones has done it again. The professional carver, who has been creating spectacular snow sculptures all winter, honored Western New York Heroes.”
Mike Jones, adjutant for Arcade American Legion Post 737, noted that the impressive sculpture is located at Automotive Alley on Route 98 in Arcade, and that it is helping to raise funds for WNY Heroes Inc.
“Members of VFW Post 374 and Arcade American Legion Post 737 visited the ‘WNY Heroes’ snow sculpture,” he said. “Both veterans’ clubs are going to make a donation to WNY Heroes for the good things they do for veterans and their families.”
