Jamie Griganis Is Cadet of Year

Jamie A. Griganis, the graduating cadet commander in the Navy JROTC program at Southold Junior-Senior High School, is the Department of New York Cadet of the Year.

The National Honor Society member played both varsity tennis and softball, and won both Army and Navy ROTC scholarships to Fordham and Columbia universities, respectively. She also received a congressional nomination to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Department JROTC/ROTC Advisor John Kasmer Jr. noted that the cadet was planning to pursue an Army commission at Fordham even though her dad, William, was a retired Marine major — which spurred a swell of Army “hooahs” from the convention crowd.
