Series Opens with 3 Wins, 1 Rainout

UTICA — The New York State American Legion Baseball Championship series opened July 30 with back-to-back games at Murnane Field.

In the opening game, Clinton County Mariners walloped Jurek Post of East Amherst, 9-3.

That was followed by Saratoga Stampede edging Endicott Post, 6-5.

Then New Hartford Post beat the Corning Grays, 8-7.

The final game of the day, pitting Rome’s Smith Post against Lloyd Post of Highland, was rained out and rescheduled to 9 a.m. Thursday. Because of the delayed game, Thursday’s line-up was being readjusted. It originally was featuring, in order, Clinton County Mariners vs. Corning Grays, Saratoga Stampede vs. Lloyd Post, Endicott Post vs. Rome’s Smith Post, and Jurek Post vs. New Hartford Post.
