    American Legion Baseball Celebration in Cooperstown March 29-30

    Puts Spotlight on Veterans and Former Legion Players Who Are Enshrined in the Hall of Fame

    Baseball Hall of Fame logoCOOPERSTOWN — The National Baseball Hall of Fame and The American Legion are teaming up to celebrate the Legion’s 100th Anniversary and spotlight Hall of Famers who served in the Armed Forces or who had played Legion Baseball before going on to the major leagues.

    This American Legion Baseball Celebration takes place from 9 a.m. Friday, March 29 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

    ATTICA — The 138 lost sailors of the USS Turner are buried in a mass grave on Long Island.

    If Gary Schacher is successful, the sailors’ remains — interred since 1944 — will be submitted for DNA testing and a proper burial, the Batavia Daily News reported Feb. 13.
