    Rayson-Miller Takes 2 Wins to Advance in State Tournament

    UTICA — District 7 Champ Rayson-Miller Post 899 won both games Tuesday and advances to Wednesday’s final round against undefeated District 9 Champ Rockland Pirates Post 130 in the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships.

    In game 12, Rayson-Miller defeated District 4 Champ Clinton County Mariners Post 1619, 12 to 3; then overcame District 8 Champ Depew Post 1528, 6 to 3, in the nighttime game 13.

    The championship round(s) begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday. If Rockland loses, then they will face off one more time at 12:30 p.m. to see who can claim the state championship title.

    The tournament takes place at Murnane Field’s Donovan Stadium.

  • Field of Play Narrows with 2 Games to Go Before Wednesday’s Final Round

    UTICA — The field of play in the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships has narrowed to four teams.

    In game 12 scheduled for 4 p.m. today, District 4 Champ Clinton County Mariners Post 1619, squares off against District 7 Champ Rayson-Miller Post 899. Both teams have won two of their three tournament games.

    The winner of that contest faces District 8 Champ Depew Post 1528 in game 13 scheduled for 7 tonight. Depew also has won two of its three games.

    The championship round(s) takes place Wednesday, with District 9 Champ Rockland Pirates Post 130, undefeated in the tournament, squaring off against the winner of game 13 at 10 a.m.. And then, if needed to claim the title, the winner of game 14 faces the loser of game 14.

    The tournament takes place at Murnane Field’s Donovan Stadium.

    Rockland Grabs 3rd Win; Clinton County, Rayson-Miller Score 2nd Wins on 3rd Day of Tournament

    UTICA (Murnane Field, Donovan Stadium) — Clinton County Mariners Post 1619 scored its second win in game 9 of the American Legion State Baseball Championships Monday afternoon against Schenectady County Indians, 4 to 3. That leaves Clinton with 2 wins and 1 loss, and Schenectady with 1 win and 2 losses.

    Rayson-Miller Post 899 downed Utica Post 229, 5 to 1, in game 10, picking up a second win and leaving Utica with one win and two losses.

    In nightime game 11, Rockland Pirates Post 130 grabbed its third win in three days, beating Depew Post 1528, 9 to 5. Depew has two wins and one loss.

    Utica Post and Clinton County Rebound As Depew and Rockland Grab 2nd Wins in Day 2 of Tournament Play

    UTICA — District 5 Champ Utica Post 229 rebounded in game 5 of the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships on Sunday, defeating District 6 Champ Vestal Post 89, 7 to 1. That leaves Utica with one win and one loss, and Vestal with two losses.

    In game 6, District 4 Champ Clinton County Mariners Post 1619 also rebounded from yesterday’s defeat, edging host Andrean Post 625, 2 to 1. Andrean now has two losses.

    In game 7, District 8 Champ Depew Post 1528 grabbed its second win, and handed District 3 Champ Schenectady County Indians their first loss. The score was 4 to 2.

    In game 8, played at night, District 9 Champ Rockland Pirates Post 130 took a second win, edging District 7 Champ Rayson-Miller Post 899 of Pittsford, 1 to 0. That leaves Rayson-Miller 1 and 1.

    The tournament is being played at Murnane Field’s Donovan Stadium.

    Commander Gary Schacher Throws Out First Pitch.

    Department Commander Gary M. Schacher helped launch the New York State American Legion Baseball Championship Tournament today by throwing out the first pitch.

    The opening game pitted District 3 Champ Schenectady County Indians against District 6 Champ Vestal Post 89. Schenectady took the win, edging Vestal, 3 to 2.

    District 7 Champ Rayson-Miller Post 899 of Pittsford edged Clinton County Mariners Post 1619, 8 to 7, in game two of the opening day.

    In game 3, District 8 Champ Depew Post 1528 downed District 5 Champ Utica Post 229, 11 to 0.

    In game 4’s night play, District 9 Champ Rockland Post 130 defeated Host Adrean Post 625, 13 to 1.
