  • Help Find Faces of Vietnam Fallen

    Did you know that the photos of almost 1,200 service members from the state of New York who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam are missing from the “Wall of Faces” on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s website?

    I have initiated a state-wide Community Service project that will hopefully “find a face” for every name that is listed without a photo.

    Penn Yan Post Celebrates 98 Years with Awards

    PENN YAN — Johnson-Costello American Legion Post 355 recently celebrated its 98th anniversary, honoring members, volunteers, and local law enforcement and emergency responders.

    Andy Swarthout was honored as the Seventh District Legionnaire of the Year, and was presented with a Lifetime Membership award for his contributions to the post and the needs of area veterans. For 16 years, he has served at the chairman of the Memorial Day observations in Penn Yan. He also organizes military honors at funerals in the area.

    The Department of New York’s 5th District will hold its Golf Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Highland Meadows Golf & Country Club in Watertown, District Golf Chair Michael E. Michalski announced.

    Proceeds will benefit the USO.

    National Vice Commander Troiola Visits Watervliet Arsenal

    Legion and Arsenal Have Long History Together

    American Legion National Vice Commander V. James Troiola visited the historic Watervliet Arsenal on April 6, accompanied by New York American Legion Department Commander John Sampson and several other Legion leaders. “The one thing that stood out more than any other is just how much pride each worker has in what they are doing for our country,” Troiola said. “Wherever I went today, every employee was not just friendly, they were also very committed to supporting our troops.”
