UPDATE: SBA Loan/Grants, Baseball, Nat’l Visits, Nat’l Commander Candidate
Message from Department Adjutant
Legionnaires, SAL members, Legion Riders,
Don’t Overlook SBA Loan/Grants
I hope this message finds you, your family and friends in good health and spirits. During these trying times it sometimes seems there is no end to this pandemic but please remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We will get through this and come out stronger in the end. I am writing to you from our HQ in Troy as I have spent a few days up here attending to Department business. We have secured an SBA loan/grant to assist in our expenses. A big thank-you to Anne Rounds, who continues to maintain our Troy office and is a great asset to the Department. Her assistance to our accountants and Berkshire Bank were pivotal in our securing this loan/grant. I would advise all the Posts in the Department to attempt to avail yourselves of these SBA loan/grants. Please contact your accountant or local bank for guidance and assistance.

NY Legion Family Continues to Step Up During Crisis
By The American Legion
Stay-at-home orders, along with self-isolating and social distancing, have provided an opportunity for American Legion Family members to show just how capable they are when it comes to stepping up for others amidst a crisis.
In Valhalla, N.Y., American Legion Adolph Pfister Post 1038 Legion Family members have been performing Buddy Checks on local veterans, including those at-risk, as well as local senior citizens. The post also is donating, shopping for and making food deliveries for those self-isolating or unable to go out in public because of health risks. And just last weekend a Post 1038 member delivered much-needed medication to a Legionnaire isolating with his wife, a member of Auxiliary Unit 1038.“Even though it’s small, guess what: For this family, it really means a lot,” Post 1038 Commander John Creskey said. “It’s a real challenge for folks around the country, and around the world, and everybody’s doing the best they can. We’re pleased as the local post to be able to do this stuff.”
Post 1038 has grown its membership every year since 2012, in part because Creskey said its relationship with its community is strong. “We never stop bonding with the community, whether it’s with Scouts or Americanism or needs, etc.,” he said.
Munnsville’s Easter Bunny
Munnsville American Legion Post 54 had to cancel its Easter breakfast and egg hunt, so the post instead set up a drive-thru that allowed the Easter Bunny to hand out treats to children inside their vehicles.
