Legion Family Converges on Buffalo for 101st Convention
BUFFALO — More than 1,000 wartime veterans and family members are converging on Buffalo July 17-20 for the New York State American Legion’s 101st Annual Convention.
At the same time, Buffalo hosts the 99th Annual Auxiliary Convention and the 45th Annual Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Convention.

Commander Throws First Pitch to Adjutant at Mets Game
Department Commander Gary Schacher and Department Adjutant Jim Casey pose for a photo after the commander threw out the ceremonial first pitch to the adjutant at Citi Field July 5.
It was an American Legion Centennial kickoff to July 5’s game at Citi Field with the New York Mets.
Several Legionnaires were on hand to accept the New York Mets’ Spirit Award, and Department Commander Gary Schacher threw the ceremonial first pitch to Department Adjutant Jim Casey. The Legion leaders extended a special thank-you to Post 1006 of Brentwood for providing the Color Guard.
Legion Family members can attend a Yankees game on July 14.

Supreme Court Ruling on Cross Hailed as ‘Victory for Freedom’
The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled in favor of protecting the Bladensburg Peace Cross, which sits on public land in Maryland.Department of New York Commander Gary Schacher called the 7-2 Supreme Court ruling “a victory for freedom.”

ROCHESTER – Monroe County celebrated American Legion Day at the Rochester Red Wings AAA baseball game on Sunday, June 16.

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo presented a proclamation to County Vice Commander Charles Clark prior to the start of the game.
“Happy 100th Anniversary to The American Legion…,” Dinolfo declared in a follow-up Facebook post. “It was great to see everyone at the Rochester Red Wings AAA baseball game today. Alongside County (Vice) Commander and Irondequoit’s own Charlie Clark, we proclaimed today to be American Legion Day in Monroe County to recognize the incredible service that Legionnaires provide to their fellow service members, veterans, and our entire community. We are fortunate to have you!”

NY Legion Leaders Demonstrate Flag Etiquette on ‘Fox & Friends First’
Department Commander Gary Schacher and Department Legislative Chair Frank LaMarsh appeared on the early morning TV show, Fox & Friends First, today.
They helped to celebrate Flag Day by showing proper flag etiquette — demonstrating the proper folding of Old Glory.
