    Eagle Scout Koen Weaver of Troop 4077 in Livingston County must be doing something right.

    This is the second time he has been chosen as the New York State American Legion’s Eagle Scout of the Year, Scouting Chairman Stephen Mataraza announced at the 100th Department Convention in Rochester.

    “Koen was also selected as a national runner-up for The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year,” he said.

  • Opening Day of Convention Spotlights Top First Responders, Including Fallen Trooper

    ROCHESTER – Hundreds of wartime veterans took time to posthumously honor a fallen state trooper on the opening day of the New Year State American Legion’s 100th Convention here on Thursday.

    Trooper Joel Davis, who was shot and killed a year ago while responding to a report of shots fired at a Jefferson County residence, was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Law and Order Chairman David R. Riley Sr. announced.

    “Trooper Davis’ sacrifice upholds the highest traditions of valor and service to the people of New York State,” Riley said.

    Trooper Davis was a four-year veteran of the New York State Police and had previously served nearly a decade as a Jefferson County Sherriff’s deputy. Trooper Davis leaves behind His wife, Suzanne, and their children; Trenton, Caden and Jaila.

    THE LEGIONNAIRES also honored other top first responders, plus singled out Utica Post 229 as Post of the Year for its outstanding efforts to recognize police officers and firefighters in the City of Utica.

    Legion Family Converges on Rochester for 100th Convention

    ROCHESTER — More than 1,000 wartime veterans and family members converge on Rochester July 18-21 for the New York State American Legion’s 100th Annual Convention. For its centennial meeting, The American Legion Department of New York returns to the city that hosted its first state convention in 1919.

    At the same time, Rochester hosts the 98th Annual Auxiliary Convention and the 44th Annual Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Convention.

    National Convention Update: Time for Some Minneapolis Tips!

    We have been very fortunate this year to be assigned a hotel with a great location. Our hotel is the Millennium Minneapolis, located at 1313 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis. We are the closest hotel to the Convention Center. In fact, it is right behind us. You make a right out of the hotel and a right on the corner. You will see it up ahead on the next block. It is also accessible via the Skyway from inside our hotel. In fact, the Skyway is air conditioned, contains shops, and connects to all of downtown!
