    Grand Island, Clinton County, Sherrill, Rockland Take Opening Day Wins in State Championships

    UTICA — The New York State American Legion Baseball Championships got underway Tuesday at Murnane Field’s Donovan Stadium here, with Grand Island, Clinton County Mariners, Sherrill Post and RocklandOTB Post 130 scoring opening-day wins.

    Grand Island shut out Schenectady Indians, 3-0.

    Then Clinton County rousted Fairport’s Brooks Shepard Post, 8-5.

    In the third game, Sherrill Post 230 edged Binghamton Post 80, 3-2.

    In the final game of the day, RocklandOTB Post 130 downed Adrean Post 625, 11 to 2.
