    CHARLOTTE, NC – The nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization honored Lt. Col. Oliver L. North, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret), with its highest public relations award during its 96th national convention here April 26. Among those congratulating the host of Fox News’ “War Stories” were two Legionnaires from New York’s Columbia County. In fact, North took a moment to pose for a picture with New York Legionnaires Jeff French and his friend, Richard Morris — as North had been French’s scoutmaster.

    CHARLOTTE — The Department of New York presented an $8,000 donation to National Commander Daniel Dellinger during the 96th National Convention Aug. 26 to help provide scholarships to the children of U.S. service members who are killed while serving their country.

    NY Vet Recalls WWII at Convention

    CHARLOTTE, NC — The American Legion’s 96th National Convention opened Aug. 23, with more than 9,000 people expected to attend. Among them was New York Legionnaire Al Paviglianti of Canastota, NY, the Charlotte Observer reported.

    The World War II veteran shared memories of the Marine landing on Iwo Jima in 1945.

    90 Employers Look to Hire Vets at Convention

    CHARLOTTE  — Veteran-friendly companies, agencies and organizations are coming to the Charlotte Convention Center Aug. 26 for a Hiring Our Heroes career fair during the 96th National Convention of The American Legion. So far, nearly 90 employers are scheduled to meet with veterans from 10:15 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Center Ballroom of the venue.
