Legion Charters Post on College Campus
The American Legion in New York State has chartered a (first ever) college post at Long Island University.
Department of New York Commander Kenneth Governor presented the charter and installed officers May 28 for Admiral Richard L. Conolly Post 2014 at Long Island University’s Post College (LIU Post) in Brookville, NY.

Groups Urge ‘Justice for Vets Act’
ALBANY – Veterans groups representing over 200,000 veterans urged passage of the Justice for Our Veterans Act on May 20, calling for a criminal justice framework that ensures untreated veterans with mental health illnesses receive treatment and a fair process. Members of the American Legion and the Veterans Defense Program of the New York State Defenders Association (NYSDA) joined Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, sponsors of the Justice for Our Veterans Act, A.7529 and S.5624.

Vets Job Fair for Port of NY/NJ
Honorably discharged veterans are being given a rare opportunity to land a job with the Port of New York and New Jersey.
On May 28, the port authority will participate in the Port Jobs for Veterans Job Fair, held at the Maher Terminal Building in Elizabeth, N.J., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event specifically targets veterans who are looking for employment as electricians, managers, engineers, port authority police officers and many other employment fields.

Legion Calls for VA Chiefs to Step Down
American Legion National Commander Daniel M. Dellinger is calling for the resignations of Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, Under Secretary of Health Robert Petzel and Under Secretary of Benefits Allison Hickey.
