Legion Urges 5% Set-Aside in State Budget for Disabled Vets
ALBANY — The American Legion Department of New York is urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature to enact a five percent set-aside in the state budget that would give some preferences in awarding government contracts to businesses owned by disabled military veterans.

Jobs, Suicide, Benefit Cuts Among Issues at Mid-Winter Conference
ALBANY — Jobs, suicide prevention and retiree benefit cuts will be on the minds of nearly 1,200 American Legion members as they gather this weekend (Jan. 24-26) for the New York State American Legion’s 95th Annual Mid-Winter Conference at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center here. Another 700 members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion also will be addressing veterans and family issues as they hold concurrent meetings at nearby hotels.

Cuomo Orders Flags at Half Staff for Dick Pedro
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Thursday, January 16, 2014, in recognition of Richard M. Pedro and his lifelong dedication to serving Veterans. Mr. Pedro, who led The American Legion Department of New York as adjutant for nearly three decades, passed away in Owego on January 10, 2014 at the age of 87.
