    Taconic Hills Student Wins 3rd District Oratorical Contest

    COBLESKILL — The American Legion’s 3rd District hosted its oratorical contest Jan. 9 at SUNY Cobleskill.

    Seven students competed for the chance to advance to the Zone 3 contest to be held at the Lake George High School on Feb. 6 in the hopes reaching the Department finals.

    This year’s Oratorical Program was dedicated to Past Department Commander Kenneth Governor, who passed on Christmas Eve and was an instrumental part of the Department’s Oratorical Program.

    The contest resulted in the following placements:

    — First Place — Jacob Gellert, a senior at Taconic Hills High School, Columbia County.

    — Second place — Joesph Giulian, a senior at Taconic Hills High School, Columbia County.

    — Third place — Jack Rento, a junior at Christian Brothers Academy, Albany County.

    “The American Legion thanks all contestants participating and issued participation certificates to all seven candidates and to those instrumental in the support making this program possible,” noted Legionnaire Tim Burch.
