    State Tourney Enters 2nd Day

    UTICA — Smith Post 24 of Rome avoided elimination in a come-back win over Clinton County Mariners, 8-4, in the first game of the second day of the American Legion’s New York State Baseball Championships Sunday morning.

    Maine Endwell Post 1700 of Endicott also survived elimination after turning back host Andran Post 130, 12-2, in the second Sunday game.

    Saugerties Post 72 and Rayson-Miller Post 899 of Pittsford, both winners in Saturday’s play, squared off in Sunday’s third game. Saugerties won, 6-5.

    In the final game of the day, 2018 state champions Rockland Pirates Post 130 continued its winning streak, defeating Hamburg Post 527, 5-0.

    Saturday’s opening day results:

    • Saugerties Post 72 downed Clinton County Post 1619, 12-9.

    • Rayson-Miller Post 899 beat Smith Post, 4-1.

    • Hamburg Post 527 edged Maine Endwell Post 1700, 3-2.

    • Rockland Pirates Post 130 beat host Andrean Post 130, 7-3.
