Rule Change for New Shooters
The Junior Shooting Sports program in the Department of New York has adopted a new rule defining a “new shooter” as not having any shooting experience prior to the current New York State American Legion League season – in order to qualify for “new shooter” awards, Program Chair Lawrence Behling announced.
A new shooter hasn’t fired in any form of competition, hasn’t been trained by coaches or other team officials, and has very limited knowledge of shooting sports.
Once a new shooter joins a Legion team, he or she may fire in sanctioned or unsanctioned matches outside the American Legion during the current League season and maintain his/her status as a first-year shooter.
