Rockland, W. Seneca, Saratoga Triumph After Rain Delay
UTICA — Rain delayed the start of the third round of the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships Thursday, but once the play got underway at Utica’s Murnane Field….
Rockland OTB Pirates Post 130 put the pressure on, scoring four runs in the 4th inning and six runs in the 5th. Maine-Endwell Post of Endicott came back to drive in 5 runs in the 6th inning, but it wasn’t enough. Rockland County triumphed, 13-5, picking up a second tournament win and giving Maine-Endwell its first loss after the Endicott team took first and second round wins.
IN THE SECOND GAME, West Seneca Post 735 grabbed its third tournament win against Brooks Shepard Post 765 of Fairport, 13-7, leaving the latter with 2 wins and one loss. Both teams scored equal runs for over half the game before West Seneca pulled ahead.
IN THE THIRD GAME, Utica Post 229 came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning and holding off Saratoga Stampede, except for one run in the 2nd, for nearly six innings before Saratoga drove in three runs, then another in the 7th and three more in the 9th. The score was 8 to 4, with Saratoga clinching its second tournament win and leaving Utica Post zero for 3.
