    Past Dept Treasurer Al Goodwin Passes to Post Everlasting

    STILLWATER – Albert J. Goodwin, Jr., 82, of Stillwater passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Hoosick Falls Health Care Center with his family at his side. He was past department treasurer of The American Legion Department of New York.

    Goodwin was a member of The American Legion for more than half a century. His home post was Hoosick Falls Post 40. He simultaneously served other posts at the county and state level always holding an officer position. His positions included:

    — Department Finance Officer, 2006 to 2015.
    — Department Graves Chairman, 2002 to 2006.
    — Department Vice Commander, 1996 to 1997.
    — National Veterans Employment & Education Committee Member, 2004 to 2015.

    He is survived by his wife, the former Carol A. Wheaton; several children, step-children and grandchildren. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Goodwind served from 1952 to 1958 attaining the rank of lieutenant. He retired from Allied Signal in Green Island after 25 years.

    Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, NY 12170. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors at 1 p.m. sharp.
