Past Dept. Commander Gibby Mitras Enters Post Everlasting
WADDINGTON, NY – Past Department Commander Paul (Gibby) Mitras, 83, was called to Post Everlasting on Sunday, August 27, surrounded by family while under the care of Hospice.
A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, September 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church on Oak Street in Waddington. A reception immediately follows at American Legion Post 420 on Fenton Street.
The Massena High School graduate was an Army veteran who attended Clarkson University on the G.I. Bill. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1959. Mitras worked for GE and Lockheed Electronics (including project engineer at Goddard space flight center) before returning to Waddington and operating Gib’s restaurant and then serving as Waddington postmaster. A life member of the American Legion, Mitras had been department commander from 2001 to 2002.
