Canandaigua SAL Hosts ‘Welcome Home Celebration’
Military personnel, veterans and their families enjoyed a Welcome Home Celebration Sept. 23 at Canandaigua American Legion Post 256.
Hosted by the Canandaigua Sons of The American Legion (SAL) and the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, the event attracted 150 people, including 94 veterans, reported SAL Squadron Commander Gabe Cinquegrana.

Pizza Fundraiser for Post’s Community Programs
BURNT HILLS — Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake American Legion Post 1817 is holding a fundraiser at Pizza Works at 733 Saratoga Rd., Burnt Hills, on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 4 to 9 p.m.
“A percentage of pizza sales will be donated to our post to support community programs which we sponsor,” notes Carl N. Poole, post treasurer and membership chairperson.

Commander Nessler talks expanding membership, advocating for military families

WATERTOWN — The first female commander in the 99-year history of The American Legion Department of New York said she wants to connect with younger military veterans to help grow the national organization into the future, the Watertown Daily Times reported Oct. 5.
“Our organization is for veterans of all ages,” said Rena Nessler, who was elected to the role earlier this year after several years of service to the organization. “We look at input from our younger veterans, and ask what they like, and work with them to incorporate that…”
Commander Nessler visited the Watertown area on Wednesday, Oct. 4, with other top Legion officials. Their tour included a stop at the John C. Londraville Post 832, lunch in Cape Vincent, and then a dinner at the Army Navy Post 61, Watertown. Joining her were state Auxiliary President Patricia Hennessey and state Sons of The American Legion Detachment Commander William Clancy III.

Legion Ball Players in Charity Game with Hall of Famers
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Two American Legion baseball players from the Saratoga Stampede took part in a charity softball game Sept. 23 with Baseball Hall of Famers Wade Boggs and Ozzie Smith, among other celebrities, to raise money for Ronald McDonald House, reports David Lockhart, 4th District sergeant-at-arms.
