Monroe County Legion Hosts 90th Annual Dinner for Rochester Ball Team
The Rochester Red Wings International League baseball team has always been a mainstay of the Greater Rochester community. The team has been in existence since 1899, and in 1929 the Monroe County American Legion began a tradition of hosting a dinner each year to welcome the team to Rochester just prior to the start of its new season. On April 3, 2018, the Monroe County Committee of the American Legion hosted the 90th Dinner at the Double Tree Hotel with some 425 people in attendance.

Legion Family members can now register and reserve hotel rooms for the 100th American Legion National Convention via a housing and registration form. The form is available here.
The National Convention takes place Aug. 24-30 in Minneapolis, MN.

Sen. Schumer Pushes for Canandaigua VA Funding
Commander Nessler: Need to maintain veteran health care in future
CANANDAIGUA — Department Commander Rena Nessler joined veterans and VA officials at press conference March 30 where U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer announced he was launching “a campaign to secure $190 million in much-needed funding for the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Campus modernization project.”

Wounded Warriors Can Learn Hands-on Archaeology
ALBANY, NY – Wounded warriors and veterans with disabilities have the opportunity to learn hands-on archaeology, thanks to the veteran-owned American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR) charity. AVAR has launched a project with DigVentures, the archaeology social enterprise, to conduct an archaeological dig southeast of Albany from 22 May to 3 June. The project is supported by an education grant from the National Geographic Society.

Join the Fun at Legion Family Homecoming on May 19
The New York State American Legion will celebrate the third annual Legion Family Homecoming on Saturday, May 19, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany. The Homecoming honors Department Commander Rena Nessler, Department President Patricia Hennessy and Detachment Commander William Clancy.

Legion Family College Extends Application Deadline to May 1
May 1 is the new deadline for applying to attend American Legion Family College of New York.Legion Family College is a three-day immersion into Legion programs and structure as well as issues facing the largest veterans’ service organization.
It is open to members of the Legion, the Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and American Legion Riders.
The college takes place June 1-3 at Morrisville State College.
