National Dues Increase
Delegates at the recent American Legion National Convention in Baltimore approved a $5 per-capita increase in national membership dues.
The Department of New York will be announcing soon how it will handle the increase.
The previous national dues increase was nearly a decade ago. The natural attrition of veterans from early 20th century war eras has contributed greatly to a 16 percent drop in membership since that last dues increase. On the other side of the coin, more than 3 million veterans of the global war on terrorism are restarting their civilian lives, or about to do so, and may be looking to The American Legion for help.
