Mattydale Color Guard Receives Award of Excellence

SYRACUSE — New York State American Legion Commander Kenneth Governor visited the Legion Family in Onondaga County Sunday, Oct. 6, and honored the Mattydale Post 1832 Color Guard.

During a banquet at Valley American Legion Post 1468 in Syracuse, Governor presented Mattydale Post 1832 Color Guard with the Department Commander’s Award of Excellence. He cited the color guard’s support of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Final Salute, and other Legion and community-related ceremonies. Formed in 1964 with a rifle team added in 2002, the Mattydale Color Guard, he said, performs 70 to 80 funerals a year, along with 20 to 30 other ceremonies, logging between 2,000 and 3,000 volunteer hours.
