  Long Island Youth Is Boys State Governor

  Elias Mastakouris, a student entering his senior year at Long Island’s North Shore High School in Glen Head, was elected governor of The American Legion’s Boys State, held June 26 to July 2 at SUNY Morrisville.

  Nearly 1,000 high school students from around the state participated in the week-long immersion in citizenship and democracy, electing Mastakouris to Boys State’s highest office.

  Mastakouris will participate in Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. from July 17 to 28 as one of 98 “senators”.

  Mastakouris was sponsored to American Legion Boys State by Glenwood Landing American Legion Post 336 in Glen Head.
