Horse Therapy Has Profound Impact on Struggling Veterans

ALBANY — Vietnam medevac helicopter pilot Bob Nevins has found that bringing off-the-track race horses together with veterans struggling to adjust to life after military service has had a profound impact.

The Saratoga WarHorse founder spoke at the closing general session of the Department of New York’s 97th Mid-Winter Conference on Jan. 24.

The connection a veteran and horse make has been effective in reducing the symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress. Using the silent language of the horse, he said, a mutual trust and profound bond is established that goes beyond verbal communication.

Nevins asked for referrals of veterans in need as well as donations – as the WarHorse experience is provided free of charge to veterans. SaratogaWarHorse.org
