Golf Tournament Rained Out — Twice
“The weather gods were not smiling on us this year for the Legion Family Gold Tournament,” reports Department Golf Chairman Auseklis Krumins.
Rain saturated the Maple Hills Golf Course in Marathon.
On August 3 Krumins “received a phone call at 6 a.m. from the owner of the course advising that at least three greens were covered in water from the incessant rain and the course was going to be unplayable.”
He added: “After discussion, we decided to postpone the tournament for two weeks.”
But on Friday, August 17, he received another phone call from Maple Hills advising that this time about eight greens were under water and the course once again was unplayable.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to hold the tournament this year which was a disappointment for the players, but they were looking forward to playing next year. Refunds of entrance fees were provided to this year’s participants.”
