Brooks Shepard, Maine-Endwell & W. Seneca Take 2nd Wins, Saratoga Grabs 1st
UTICA — Brooks Shepard Post of Fairport put players on base in the 4th and 7th innings to drive in 5 runs, beating Clinton County Mariners, 5 to 2, in the first game of the second round of the New York State American Legion Baseball Championships at Utica’s Murnane Field (Donovan Stadium) Wednesday.
In the second game, Saratoga Stampede edged past first-round winner Rockland OTB Pirates of Stony Point, 5-4, grabbing its first tournament win.
In the third game, Maine-Endwell Post of Endicott had a couple of more errors, but also nearly double the hits than Utica Post 229 managed, thus garnering a second win, 9-7, and leaving Utica Post winless after two days.
In the final game of the second day of the tournament, West Seneca Post consistently put players on base and batted them in to home to grab its second win and leave Ilion Post winless. The score was 7 to 2.
