Auburn Posts Support ‘Wreaths Across America’ Event
AUBURN – Two Auburn American Legion Posts are helping to sponsor Cayuga County’s Wreaths Across America ceremony at noon, Saturday, Dec. 12, at The Episcopal Church of SS. Peter & John, 169 Genesee St., the Auburn Citizen reports. The day is the same as Wreaths Across America’s ceremony in Arlington.
SK American Legion Post 1324 will provide the rifle volley and taps, and CI American Legion Post 1776 will sponsor a luncheon for the wreath presenters.
The newspaper reports that the event is sponsored by the students in Cayuga Community College’s Criminal Justice Club and students at Dana L. West Jr.-Sr. High School in Port Byron, as well as the Cayuga County Vietnam Veterans Chapter No. 704, who will provide the posting of colors along with the New York State Army National Guard 102nd Military Police Company.
Wreaths will be presented by Gold Star Mothers and veterans. Among those being honored at the ceremony, the newspaper reports, are Marine Jerome Bell, killed Sept. 19, 2008; Pfc. Patrick DeVoe, killed March 8, 2009; Army National Guardsman Sean Walsh, killed Nov. 16, 2011; and Staff Sgt. Francis Gene Phillips IV, killed May 4, 2013.
