  Legion Urges 5% Set-Aside in State Budget for Disabled Vets

  ALBANY — The American Legion Department of New York is urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature to enact a five percent set-aside in the state budget that would give some preferences in awarding government contracts to businesses owned by disabled military veterans.

  “It’s about helping to get jobs for our injured veterans,” noted Bill Mahan, vice chairman of The American Legion’s New York State Legislative  Committee. “The 5% set aside was not included in the governor’s initial budget proposal. We hope that reflecting back on the service of our disabled veterans, Governor Cuomo and our legislative leaders will work together to provide this set aside.”
