NY Legion’s Volunteering Valued at $4.35 Million
A total of 159,839 volunteer hours valued at $4.35 million.
That’s what Legion Posts across the state provided for such Americanism programs as oratorical contests, Scouting, junior shooting, baseball, Boys State, bowling and scholarships, Americanism Chair John Konkol reported at the 98th Annual Department Convention, held July 14-16 in Binghamton. And that’s with 95 percent of 862 posts submitting Consolidated Post Reports on time – a 10 percent jump from the previous year.
In addition, Konkol said, posts spent $1.32 million on Americanism programs this past year.
Forty nine counties had 100 percent reporting as well as three districts – First, Fourth and Fifth Districts.
He announced that Kearsing & Edwards Post 1600 (Rockland County, 9th District) received a National Certificate of Distinguished Service and Robert Lee Walsh Post 337 (Fulton County, 4th District) won a National Certificate of Meritorious Service.
Receiving Department Distinguished Awards were:
— David McKeever Post 64 (South Buffalo, Erie County, 8th District). Category: 15-99 members.
— Kearsing & Ewards Post 1600 (Pomona, Rockland County, 9th District). Cat: 100-299 members.
— Robert Lee Walsh Post 337 (Broadalbin, Fulton County, 4th District). Cat: 300-499 members.
— Bentley-Trumble Post 442 (Horseheads, Chemung County, 6th District). Cat: 500+ members.
Receiving Department Meritorious Awards were:
— Kern-Robinson Post 905 (Springwater, Livingston County, 7th District). Category: 15-99 members.
— Cassadaga Post 1280 (Cassadaga, Chautauqua County, 8th District). Cat: 100-299 members.
— Fountain Brothers Post 1619 (Morrisonville, Clinton County, 4th District). Cat: 300-499 members.
— Cottreall-Warner Post 942 (Webster, Monroe County, 7th District). Cat: 500+ members.
