Cuomo Approves Pension ‘Buy Back’ Bill for Public Employee Veterans
Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday night signed a law designed to expand pension credits for public employees who served in the military
The Veterans’ Equality Act allows all public employee military veterans who were honorably discharged, regardless of where or when they performed military duty, to buy back up to three years of military service time for pension credit.
The bill removes existing date of service limitations.
Previously Cuomo twice vetoed the bill, and veterans groups, unions and state lawmakers have been lobbying for the bill’s approval.
