“This is the first time the Department of New York is offering this course,” notes Department Junior Shooting Sports Chairman Lawrence Behling. The Department, he says, wants to support new and established teams and grow the Shooting Sports Program. “We hope to make New York a powerhouse in shooting sports.”

The BMC is not just for new shooters, he adds. Experienced shooters can benefit, too. “It takes them through everything from A to Z. We train them to become a better individual shooter.” The course usually enables average shooters to increase their scores by 25 to 30 points, and better shooters by 5 to 10 points, Behling notes, which can make a difference in competition.

The BMC includes both classroom and range instruction. At the end of the training clinic, there will be a 60 round CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) match. Deadline to register is July 24.

Sign-in is from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Alexandria Bay American Legion Post 904, 9 Rock Street, Alexandria Bay. First class is at 1:15 at Post 904.

The course is a 10-meter sporter air rifle clinic. Students need to bring their own rifles. The clinic will provide pellets, targets, target elevation, and instructors. There will be a fill station for both Co2 and air tanks.

Cost is $75 per student (which includes instruction, pellets, targets, target elevation and course materials).

A class for new instructors is part of the BMC clinic. The cost of new instructor training is $75. At the end of the clinic, student instructors take a test online for their final grade.

Post 904 will offer food on all three days of the course.
