    Senior Tournament in Binghamton

The Senior Division Championship Tournament took place July 25-27 at Binghamton’s Mirabito Stadium, home of the New York Mets Double A (AA) team, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. In addition to a new location, the tournament had a new format. Six teams competed this season with each playing two pool play games before the top four teams qualified for the single elimination playoffs.

Tournament MVP was James Capellupo from Greece Post 468.

Nolan Smith from Brounshidle Post 205 won the Tournament Big Stick award. Nolan hit .429 with 3 RBI for the tournament with an OPS of .938.

Runner-up for the state title was Brounshidle Post 205 from Kenmore, the 8th District champions. Broundshidle allowed only 12 runs in four games during the tournament. The team lived up to its #1 seed billing in the 8th District tournament.

    The other four teams were:

    • The Clinton County Mariners, sponsored by Post 1619, which return to the tournament for the 10th consecutive time. The Mariners were the lone team in the 4th District but have crisscrossed the state this summer competing in tournaments and against other American Legion teams. The Mariners recently won the prestigious Coopers Cave tournament in Saratoga and entered the tournament with an 18-7 record this season.

    • Adrean Post 625 from Utica, the 5th District champion. Adrean finished the regular season with an 8-8 record. The players plowed their way through the District 5 tournament until falling to #2 Whitestown Post 1113. They came back and defeated Whitestown 9-6 in a winner-take-all game to claim the district title.

    • The Windsor Knights, 6th District champion and a first-year American Legion team sponsored by Kennedy Heating in Windsor. Many of the players were members of the Harpursville team that won the district title last season.

    • The Orange County Outlaws, sponsored by Post 1167 from Chester, the 9th district champions. The Outlaws had a strong regular season finishing 7-1 and were the #1 seed for their tournament.
