  National Commander Visits NY April 9-11

  ALBANY — American Legion National Commander Daniel M. Dellinger is visiting New York State April 9-11, fresh on the heels of testifying before Congress. He first stops in Oswego County Wednesday evening, after being invited to testify earlier in the day at a Congressional hearing in Washington, DC, focusing on delays in VA medical care and preventable veterans deaths. Then Dellinger swings over to Saratoga County April 10, and finally to New York City April 11.

  The Vietnam War-era army veteran will speak to the Central New York Legion Family during a dinner Wednesday at Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, 3350 Maple Ave., Pulaski, Oswego County.

  Then he speaks to the Capital Region Legion Family during dinner Thursday, April 10 at the Holiday Inn-Saratoga Springs in Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County.

  On Friday Dellinger addresses New York City area Legion Family during dinner at Antun’s, 96-34 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village.

  Members of the Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion will attend all three affairs.

  The leader of the 2.4-million-member wartime veterans organization will give an update on the Legion’s role as a strong voice in the nation’s capital, fighting for service member and veteran benefits, and opposing proposed budget cuts that weaken national defense, said New York State American Legion Commander Kenneth Governor. He said Dellinger would also discuss continuing efforts to make the Department of Veterans Affairs accountable to the nation’s military veterans and to reduce the backlog of benefit claims.
