Tonawanda Band Soars to National Title

The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas, sponsored by Post 264 in Tonawanda, entertained and inspired with its lineup of pieces, winning the title of national champion in Saturday’s concert band competition during the 101st American Legion Convention in Indianapolis.

New York had a color guard unit in national competition Aug. 23 during the 101st American Legion Convention in Indianapolis.
Sons of The American Legion Squadron 457 (Seeley B. Parish Post 457 in Phelps, NY) won in its class.

Headquarters Office Moves to Troy
The American Legion Department of New York has a new home for its headquarters in Troy, NY.
This week the Department HQ has been closed as it moved from its long-time Albany location (top floor of the Albany County Office Building at 112 State Street) into its own building at 1304 Park Boulevard in Troy.
The headquarters office is expected to re-open for business by Tuesday, Aug. 20, when telephones and computers are back in service.

Join the Legion Family at NYS Fair
Imagine an American Legion booth at the New York State Fair, attracting Legion Family memberships from among the 1.3 million fair-goers.That’s exactly what Eastwood Post 1276 and Onondaga County American Legion are planning – with a membership booth in a high foot-traffic area in front of the veterans memorial at the fairgrounds in Syracuse. The fair runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 2.

New Membership Application Reflects Open Eligibility
With the passage of the LEGION Act that extends membership eligibility to everyone who has served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces since Dec. 7, 1941, The American Legion has issued an updated membership application.
Membership is open to anyone who has served at least one day of active duty and received an honorable discharge, or who is still serving honorably in the military.
