SAL Squadron Secures Operation Comfort Warrior Grant for VA Facilities
The American Legion established Operation Comfort Warriors as a mechanism to support sick and wounded warriors — including providing rehabilitation, recreational and clothing items to VA medical facilities. Recently, the New York Harbor VA Healthcare System was the latest beneficiary of OCW.
The grant was sponsored by the Windsor Terrace Sons of the American Legion Squadron #1175 of Kings County and benefitted the three campuses that make up the NY Harbor VA Healthcare System (Manhattan, Brooklyn and St. Alban’s, Queens).

Middleburgh Post Captures Department Golf Title
MARATHON, NY — A foursome from Middleburgh Post 248 captured the first place title in the Department of New York’s annual Legion Family Golf Tournament, held Aug. 4 at Maple Hill Golf Club.

USAA to Give $20,000 to Lucky Post
In an effort to show support for The American Legion at a local level, USAA will be giving out $20,000 for a Legion Post the week of Veteran’s Day 2017. Both existing USAA members and non-USAA members can enter the sweepstakes at www.usaa.com/talgiveaway until October 31. (Non-members sign up for a free membership to enter.)

Membership Workshops Run End of August and in October

Deputy Wyman Memorial Ride Is Sept. 23
American Legion Rider chapters may be interested in participating in the 7th Annual Deputy Kurt Wyman Memorial Motorcyle Ride on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Whitestown Town Park, 5195 Gibson Road, Whitesboro, reports Gary Schacher, state ALR sergeant-at-arms.
