National Dues Increase
Delegates at the recent American Legion National Convention in Baltimore approved a $5 per-capita increase in national membership dues.
The Department of New York will be announcing soon how it will handle the increase.

Hundreds at Patriot Highlander Challenge Aid Wounded Vets
About 800 community members, military personnel and veterans convened in Cobleskill, N.Y, on Aug. 29 to participate in the second-annual Patriot Highlander Challenge – a Legion-sponsored event that pits participants against each other in a six- or three-mile race through 18 different obstacles.

It’s About ‘Duty, Honor, Country’

Legion family members will have no trouble remembering newly elected American Legion National Commander Dale Barnett’s motto. The Department of Georgia Legionnaire made sure to have it placed on this year’s membership shirt.
“Duty, honor, country – these three words have great meaning to my life, and I hope this year will have great meaning to you,” Barnett told Legionnaires Thursday on the finral day of the 97th National Convention in Baltimore. He then broke down what each word means to him.

NY Dept. Cheered for Size of Charitable Donation
BALTIMORE – The Department of New York drew cheers and applause from the sea of delegates at the American Legion National Convention Wednesday morning when New York Delegation Chairman and 2014-2015 Department Commander Frank Peters announced that New Yorkers contributed $142,357 to the National Emergency Fund (NEF).
