    Tournament Ball Players Meet Veterans

UTICA – American Legion baseball players met veterans undergoing rehabilitation at Sitrin Health Care on Tuesday — the day before the state championship tournament got under way. Some of the vets the players met were from the most current conflicts, while others were from previous wars, WKTV News Channel 2 reported. They also met newly elected Department Commander Frank Peters, who told WKTV:

“It’s good for the veterans to see the players they support, and (Legion baseball) promotes a good healthy program — citizenship, sportsmanship, teamwork — everything that builds character for these young Americans.”

The games run July 30 to Aug. 3 at Murnane Field.

The city was just awarded the tournament for the next six years.
