    Convention Parade Has Prize-Winning Marching Units

    The Friday evening parade (July 17) during the 97th Department Convention in Buffalo featured bands, color guards and marching units from across the state.

    "Santa" Dom Guernsey was among Legion Riders that led the parade.

    American Legion Riders (including state Director Dave Davis and state Chaplain “Santa” Don Guernsey) led the parade, along with Buffalo Police Color Guard, Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, Department Color Guard and 2014-2015 Commander Frank Peters.

    Parade Chairman John Siefert announced the prize-winning units Saturday morning.

    First place winners by category are:

    — Senior Band or Drum Corps: Towanda Post 264 American Legion Band.

    7th District Color Guard took a first place award

    — Pipe Fife & Drum: Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipe & Drum Band,

    — Legion Family Color Guard: Broadalbin Post 337 Color Guard.

    — District Color Guard: 7th District Color Guard.

    Post 264 Band

    Tonawanda Post 264 American Legion Band took first place in the senior band division.

    — County Color Guard: Monroe County Color Guard.

    — Post Color Guard: Greece Post 468 Color Guard.

    — SAL Color Guard: Detachment Color Guard.

    — Auxiliary District Color Guard: 6th District Color Guard.

    — Auxiliary County Color Guard: Suffolk County Color Guard.

    — Auxiliary Unit Color Guard: Post 1151 Auxiliary Color Guard.

    — Special Awards: Hutch Tech JROTC.
